Built in 1727, Ghan House is a 4* AA rated, fully restored, family run Georgian House now in its 21st year of continuous business with 16 years of awards and nominations (see our website).
It is one of the oldest private houses of its type in Ireland, a tree length from Medieval Carlingford with 3 acres of walled mature gardens.
All of Carlingford's ancient buildings dating as far back at 1210; from King John's Castle, the Dominican Friary, Mint. Taaffe's Castle and old town wall are within a 2 minute walk from our front door. The Tholsel, Medieval Carlingford's old town gate is just 30 metres from our walls.
We are in a wonderful location just one hour from both Dublin and Belfast and two of Ireland’s three World Heritage sites are within easy driving distance - just 45 minutes to Newgrange and a 135 minute drive to the stunning Giant's Causeway.
WeddingsThe unique aspect of Ghan House is that you can have exclusive use of the whole house & gardens ~ which means, no other guests apart from your own!
The alternative to exclusive use, often in the case of smaller weddings, you could have your Civil Ceremony & very own private dining room.
- Beautiful views of Slieve Foy, the Mourne Mountains & Carlingford Lough - from the gardens, all the public rooms & bedrooms.
- We have 8 ft high stone walls enclosing the gardens, adding to the privacy & uniqueness.
Most of the weddings we have are between 50 to110 with extra evening guests. However the most our drawing room will hold is 55 guests. If more than this, then we use the ballroom and/or the ground floor dining room.
The easy layout of the house and the fact that you have taken us over for the day actually makes for a more sociable environment rather than just one big function room - I like to think of it more free range than all cooped up in 1 big function room - you can escape the band/DJ and join your own guests in your own bar or relax in front of a log fire in the lounge or chill out in the gardens - knowing you'll only bump into your own guests!
“A magical wedding venue.”“We had our wedding celebration in June at Ghan House for 70 friends and family. Choosing Ghan House was the best decision we could have made. I have never seen such professional care and attention delivered with such warmth and hospitality. Everyone at Ghan House went to such great lengths to make our day special. At every stage of our preparations, help was at hand to assist and advise us. The food was superb, both in taste and presentation. I have never had food this good at a wedding! Our guests were really impressed with the intimate feel to the place - a home from home. The mood was so informal and unhurried. I cannot recommend Ghan House highly enough as they made our wedding day extra special.”Stephanie & Billy, 70 guests, June 2013“An amazing Wedding - Highly recommended!”“We chose 'Ghan House' as our wedding venue having celebrated a friend's wedding there in 2011. We didn't even consider anywhere else.....nowhere else came even close to what 'Ghan House' has to offer. From the time of booking, the care, attention and service we received was incredible. Nothing we asked for was a problem. Our wedding day itself was simply amazing. From the picturesque surroundings, ambience, amazing food, service and the house itself, we couldn't have even dreamt of better! Paul, Orla, Olavi and Sarah, to each of you we owe a huge amount of thanks for making our day simply amazing! You guys run an incredible business and long long may it continue.
