Speaking exclusively to Hola! magazine about her impending nuptials to 60-year-old civil servant Alfonso Diez Carabaotes, the duchess revealed she had to overcome opposition from her six children.
The bride-to-be, who is worth between €600m (£528m) and €3.5bn, has divided some of her riches among her six children.
In July the duchess assigned castles, palaces and other House of Alba property for her children to inherit upon her death.
The duchess told the magazine the agreement was "a little difficult to obtain".
"I achieved [my objective] of trying to persuade each one [of her children].
"I am not a person who lets herself be managed – I have my own ideas and I try to convert them into reality."
The duchess, insists while she is alive she is still in control of her fortune.
"I made the shareout because I wanted to. Nobody pressured me," she commented in the Spanish publication. "Anyway, as long as I am alive everything remains in my hands."
The duchess, whose full name is Maria del Rosario Cayetana Alfonsa Victoria Eugenia Francisca Fitz-James Stuart y de Silva, has known of Alfonso for over 30 years but only began dating him three years ago after they met at a cinema.
The wedding is scheduled to take place in a chapel at her Duenas palace, in Seville, in October.
