Allergan Inc has announced a partnership with the National Headache Foundation, a patient authority on headache disorders, and HealthyWomen, a health information source for women, to launch the "Rewrite Your Day" campaign to educate people about the disabling symptoms and burden of Chronic Migraine.
As part of the campaign, 15 people with Chronic Migraine will win a re-creation of a special moment lost to their condition – symbolizing the 15 or more headache days a month experienced by people living with Chronic Migraine.
As part of "Rewrite Your Day," nationally recognized event planner to the Hollywood elite, Mindy Weiss, will lend her decades of celebrity event planning experience to the recreation of 15 special moments, such as weddings, anniversaries and birthday parties.
"I've spent my life helping people celebrate their most important milestones. Whether it's seeing a bride walk down the aisle or watching a couple mark their 25th wedding anniversary, it brings me incredible joy to witness these memories being made," said Ms. Weiss.
"It's devastating to me that people with Chronic Migraine live half the month or more with headache pain and often miss once-in-a-lifetime moments with their loved ones as a result. That's why I am honoured to help these individuals re-create these lost moments and shed light on this devastating condition."
"Without proper diagnosis and treatment, people with Chronic Migraine live interrupted lives plagued by both headaches and worry about when the next headache will strike," said Seymour Diamond, M.D., Director Emeritus and Founder, Diamond Headache Clinic and Executive Chair of the National Headache Foundation.
"As a result, many patients report feeling isolated by the condition and robbed of time with family and friends."
The cornerstone of the campaign is an online resource, www.RewriteYourDay.com where people living with Chronic Migraine, and those who suspect they have it, can take a Chronic Migraine quiz to determine if their symptoms signal they may have Chronic Migraine, find a headache specialist who can help them and learn more about the condition and ways they can manage it.
To enter the contest, people can visit the website and share their stories of special moments missed due to Chronic Migraine, and how they would rewrite those days if given the chance.
Fifteen winners will be selected by Ms. Weiss and an independent panel of health advocates; Ms. Weiss will re-create these events between October 2011 and December 2012.
One of these people is Sherri White, who has been living with frequent headaches since she was 6 years old, and was only diagnosed with Chronic Migraine after multiple visits to the emergency room her senior year of high school. Sherri has missed out on numerous important family gatherings and special occasions because she is often unable to get out of bed due to the headache pain she experiences when she has a migraine. Thirteen years ago, a particularly severe migraine left her extremely ill and unable to truly enjoy her wedding day as she spent the entire day in a haze with pain, nausea and vomiting.
"Like every bride, I spent a long time dreaming about the perfect wedding day," explained
Sherri. "Because of Chronic Migraine, what should have been one of the most special days of my life was ruined by an excruciating headache that affected me both physically and emotionally. To have the chance to have a new moment re-created with my husband and my family and friends would be a dream come true."
People who think they may have Chronic Migraine should seek advice from a headache specialist, such as a neurologist or headache or pain physician, who is qualified to evaluate, diagnose and properly manage the condition.
