Sisters Share 50th Wedding Anniversary

Sisters who walked down the aisle with in minutes of each other over 50 years ago are today celebrating their golden wedding anniversary.

Linda and Eddie Caine and Delphine and Alan Fowler are all celebrating the significant marriage milestone.

Sisters, Linda, 73, and Delphine, 72, tied the knot with their husbands at St Mary’s Church in Purton in 1961, with Linda given away by their father, followed by Delphine given away by their brother.

Delphine, of Westcott Place, said: "It worked out that one of us was getting married one month and one was the following. We decided to just have a double wedding. It was the first one they had had at that church. It was quite unusual, everyone was talking about it.

"We did it one after the other. My sister went first because she’s older. My dad gave her away and my younger brother gave me away. We both wore white dresses. It was a lovely day.

"We always celebrate our main anniversaries together like our silver and ruby ones."
