Blackpool Wedding Chapel Opens

Couples can now say "I do" at Blackpool's newest wedding venue, which opened its doors on Thursday.

Festival House on the People’s Promenade is Blackpool’s newest, architecturally inspired, venue providing a unique experience for weddings, naming ceremonies, civil partnerships or even renewing marriage vows.

The eye catching gold clad promenade venue provides an amazing scenic backdrop for weddings with a difference, where couples can exchange vows enjoying the summer sun or the winter illuminations.

The VIP event also saw the unveiling of the first couple set to wed in the New Year, on January 12th 2012. They have received a full sponsorship package with offers from local businesses including everything from bridal attire, photography and a venue, to flowers, balloons and stationery.

Kelly Goudie, 32, and Simon Garrick, 33, live locally and have been engaged for five years. They were overwhelmed to receive the sponsorship package which is helping to build the wedding of their dreams.

The couple officially opened the building on Thursday 15 December. Kelly and Simon have been overwhelmed by the whole experience: "Being first to be married at Festival House is a dream come true – it’s the fairytale ending to our story. We have both lived in Blackpool our whole lives and we love this town. We have visions of our five year old daughter, Hallie, driving past the venue one day with her own children and telling them about how her mother and father were the first to be married there.

"My nan and grandad lived in Liverpool and came to Blackpool on their honeymoon and have visited every year after for their anniversary – and now we’re part of Blackpool’s heritage and words cannot describe how much this means to us. We are so honoured and so truly proud to be the very first couple to wed in this fantastic building. We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has helped us to have the most wonderful experience of our lives."

Festival House couples have the chance to tie the knot with their loved one in the amazing Tower View Room in front of the huge plate glass, looking out across the Promenade to the world-famous Blackpool Tower.

The charming Sea View Room provides a more intimate setting for smaller ceremonies of up to 14 people.

Guests can admire amazing panoramic views of the beach, sea front and Promenade from the glass sun terrace or the special seaside garden which forms part of the Festival House complex, creating outstanding photographic opportunities.

Blackpool Council’s Register Office has now been transferred into Festival House build from South King Street. In the new year the building will also have a tourist information centre and restaurant.

David Hill, Superintendant registrar, who is due to retire at the end of January after conducting the first ceremony, said in his opening speech: "I have worked in registration for 38 years and it has been my privilege to be Superintendent Registrar here in Blackpool since September 1987, and though there have been many wonderful times in those years serving the public, the opening of this fabulous building is for me the crowning moment."
