Martin Wright, 28, from Shrewsbury, lost his wedding ring on Sunday while placing cardboard into a recycling container in a supermarket car park.
The ring, worth £260, had slipped off his finger.
He tweeted: "Just dropped my wedding ring into a cardboard recycling container. All the phone numbers on the box are closed. What can I do?"
The web designer, who has been married for 18months, posted the message after failing to get hold of operator Veolia on the phone.
The tweet was later read by the waste operator which contacted the local office.
Veolia employee Alan Hotchkiss and a colleague clambered inside the bin to retrieve the band.
Mark Hunter, from Veolia, told the BBC: "We hand-picked every piece of cardboard and halfway down, in a Tetley teabag box there it was."
