'Take Me Out' Contestant Review Ordered

ITV is set to review the selection process for contestants on dating show Take Me Out.

The step follows complaints after a male escort with a criminal record appeared on the prime time Saturday night programme hosted by Paddy McGuinness.

Aaron Whiters, 32, from Somerset, failed to tell producers about his £50-an-hour escort past and his assault charge.

Whiters, who described himself as model, lifeguard and "semi-pro surfer", appeared on the ITV1 show on Saturday 7th January.

A spokesman for ITV said: "We are disappointed that this contestant's record was not picked up as part of the background checks carried out by talkbackThames, the producers of Take Me Out.

"We have asked talkbackThames to carry out an immediate review of their procedures on this show."

A spokeswoman for talkbackThames, who produce the show, said: "During the application process we ask contestants to declare any convictions, and background checks are carried out on each individual, in line with industry practice.

"Aaron's criminal record did not come to light. We will be reviewing procedures going forward."
