Brits Won't Put A Price On Love

UK shoppers are still romantic and prepared to splash out on their loved ones, a survey shows.

A poll by an online offers specialist reports that 40% of Brits go by the maxim "there is no price on love” when thinking about buying an engagement ring.

DiscountVouchers.co.uk, found 11% of people believe that an engagement ring ought still to cost twice the prospective groom's monthly salary. In addition, 30% of those polled report that they are happy to spend as much as £500 to secure that all-important engagement ring.

When embarking on a new relationship Brits also like to make a romantic effort. 57% of respondents say that they regularly go out to dinner with a new partner and 46% receive the gift of flowers. 25% are treated to new jewellery while 20% enjoy weekends away with a new boyfriend or girlfriend. Of those polled, just 5% said that their new partner buys them some sensual underwear.

On first dates and in the early stages of relationships 65% of people remain happy to share a restaurant bill with their date while 75% say they always buy a new outfit ahead of a first outing. 67% said they would not go for the priciest dish on a restaurant menu - even if the dish in question is their favourite.

Breaking up over the subject of meanness can happen say Brits, with 25% admitting that they would be prepared to dump a partner out of stinginess. However the poll also showed that 37% find a partner's level of generosity to be irrelevant to their love for them.

42% of people polled said that they might consider getting an overdraft to fund gifts and treats for a potential partner, while the old habit of the bride's family funding a wedding is not so common now - 94% of men would not expect this.
