Spring Tips For Busting Out Of A Dating Rut

Today marks the first official day of spring, a time of renewal and rejuvenation, longer days and warmer nights.

Spring is also the perfect time for singles to engage in some honest self-reflection, as in: Is your dating life in the doldrums? If so, what's the best way to break free of bad habits? Lavalife, a resource for singles and dating, offers five tried-and-true tips to "spring clean" your stale dating life while ramping up the fun.

"The idea of 'relationship spring cleaning' is to help singles start with a clean slate," explains Kim Hughes, Singles and Dating Expert for Lavalife. "We want singles to confront the skeletons of their ex-boyfriends or girlfriends and change up the routine. There are ways to stop making the same dating mistakes and this is the time to do it."

Relationship Spring Cleaning Tips:

Tip 1

Lose the check list and try dating someone not your usual type. Men and women often get so wrapped up in superficial requirements (height, ethnicity, age range etc.) that they overlook a person's core qualities. Ditch the list. Then open your eyes. Mr. Right might be right in front of you.

Tip 2

Enlist your best friend to go online and suggest three or four guys to make first contact with based on what she knows and loves about you and what she perceives to be a promising match based on a guy's individual profile. Chances are she'll unearth someone you might have bypassed.

Tips 3

Make a point of contacting/meeting someone just outside your usual circle. It's amazing how small the day-by-day circumference of our lives can be (office, gym, local library - repeat!) and how just a few miles can seem a world away. Become a regular at a new pub, take a class at the gym across town... or change your search criteria on dating sites and find a whole new crop of amazing people.

Tip 4

Make a conscious effort to speak to one stranger each day. It may be a passing comment about the book your fellow transit rider is reading or a gripe about the price of fruit to the person in line behind you at the market. Whatever - just get chatting. It'll boost your real-world confidence and you just never know who you'll end up speaking with.

Tip 5

Unleash the inner matchmaker in those around you by making sure everyone in your orbit knows you're single and available. Casually mention your status to the girl who cuts your hair, the guy who leads your yoga class, your favourite coffee shop barista. They might even suggest a good time for you to "coincidentally" turn up that happens to coincide with so-and-so's usual arrival.
