Chris Robson, 73, and wife Charm, 72, from St Bees, Cumbria, will mark 50 years of marriage by running the London Marathon.
The pair of retired teachers, who already have several marathons under their belts, will join thousands of other runners for the London Marathon on April 22.
Mr Robson told the BBC that he has already run two London Marathons but it will be his wife's first.
"We thought around about September, 'well OK, we have never run the London Marathon together so we might as well have a go'," Mr Robson commented to the broadcaster.
"It seemed a good idea and also raise some money for Alzheimer's Research UK."
Mrs Robson, whose father, Kem Bagnall-Oakeley, was an international athlete, began running at 40 with one of her children.
She told the website: "I though that running together would be something we could do together without quarrelling. It didn't work, but I got hooked."
