Queen's Wedding Cake Sold For Charity

A slice of the Queen’s wedding cake found in the filing cabinet at a hospice has sold at auction for over a thousand pounds.

Antique dealer Gordon Watson purchased the piece of cake to commemorate the Jubilee for £1,100.

Hospice fundraiser Dean Hutchings sold the cake on the Channel 4 show Four Rooms.

The cake is presented in a box with a card that reads: 'With the best wishes of Their Royal Highnesses The Princess Elizabeth and The Duke of Edinburgh.'.

The box is inscribed with the words: 'Buckingham Palace 20th November 1947'.

It belonged to CH Spackman, one the couple’s guards of honour, at the Westminster Abbey wedding. When he died it was donated to the Princess Alice Hospice.

The cake lay in a drawer until a charity worker found it while combing through the archives for the hospice’s 25th anniversary.
