During an interview by Ryan Seacrest on US radio Max was asked if he was engaged, to which he replied: "No, no, no, not anymore." The call then got cut off.
He later tweeted: "Hey everyone, so just to clear up any rumours, me and Shell are still very much together, just there is no wedding. The call got cut off and made it sound much worse."
A spokesperson for actress Michelle told Digital Spy: "Michelle and Max are still very much together as a couple, but they are both traditionalists and realised that there is no point in being engaged until they are in a position to plan a wedding."
The couple got engaged last summer after dating for less than a year.
