Couple Race To The Altar

A blushing bride was chased to the altar by more than 100 runners after she and her husband-to-be created a special wedding race to mark their big day, according to The Sun.

Sarah Martin, 31, and groom Nick Charlesworth love running so much they wanted it to be part of their celebration.

Sarah wore a wedding dress-inspired running outfit while architect Nick, 46, donned a dinner jacket, bow tie and top hat at the event they have called the Charlesworth Chase, now to be held every year in their honour.

Sarah, a former kickboxing champ took a 20 minute head start before 108 runners tried to catch up with her in the five-mile race through the Yorkshire Dales.

The race itself didn't see the couple running up the aisle to the altar. With just enough time for a hot shower the happy couple took to Craigmar, Hepden Bridge, for their ceremony.

Sarah said: "A lot of people were worried that we might injure ourselves on the race but we know the route very well.

"It's five miles long and the race takes you up 1,200 feet. We get a buzz out of running so this seemed the perfect thing to do."

Friend Lisa Holmes, 33, said: "It's typical of Sarah and Nick — they are really crazy about fell running. They live, sleep and breathe it so they were always going to do something crazy when it came to their wedding."
