The 33-year-old, who has been dating Chris since 2009, plan to say I do this summer.
The former How To Look Good Naked star told the Mail Online: "It feels nice to be engaged but it’s all very surreal and I keep looking at my hand and thinking: 'Oh gosh that’s an engagement ring'.
"I was never bothered about getting married, and actually when someone asks you it does change everything. It really does validate your relationship.
"What I thought was really strange was how it validates it for everybody else, because everyone changes towards you and are says: 'Oh so you guys are actually a thing?' and your family start to take more interest."
Overwhelmed by the planning Dawn called upon the services of a who owns Theatrical Weddings to do the planning.
"What I was really surprised by was how it just takes over your life,’ she said. "The organisation of a big party was really stressful for the first few weeks and I thought I can’t do this.
"She’s brilliant, so without her I could never have done it, I don’t know how you can turn up on the day and be remotely relaxed if you’ve organised it. I’m not that kind of person."
The couples five-year-old rescue dog will be their ring bearer.
