8% Of Young People Say Faithfulness Is Most Important Moral Trait

Most young people in Britain thinking looking after family is the most important moral issue, while only 8% said being faithful to a partner was the most important thing.

The news, which gives mixed messages as to the future of marriage and family, arose from a poll commissioned by BBC Religion and Ethics.


About 600 16-24 year-olds were asked to choose the most important moral issue from eight options, and 59% chose caring for a family.

The worst-performing option was 'buying ethical products', which only 1% of respondents picked as the most important action, compared to 12% for 'putting others first', 5% for 'caring for the environment' and 4% each for 'having religious faith', 'paying taxes' and 'playing a part in the local community'.
