Marriage Separation Inspired Designer

Diane von Furstenberg has revealed that the successful sales of her classic wrap dress were triggered by the end of her first marriage to Prince von Furstenberg.

The designer told W Magazine that after separating from her husband, she went from strength-to-strength selling 25,000 dresses a week.

"Usually the fairy tale ends with the girl marrying the prince," she said. "But mine started as soon as the marriage was over."

The dress is said to have captured the liberation of New York in the Seventies. "I loved the Seventies. It was between the pill and AIDS, and everyone enjoyed an amazing amount of freedom and exploration in so many ways - artistically, emotionally," she said.
