He said he was immediately smitten when the pair met at a party and knew that she was "the one". Mitchell kept the proposal low-key and private, commenting that proposing to Victoria in her kitchen was the most romantic gesture he had ever made. He added: "I was amazed that Victoria was surprised, given the bunch of flowers and my general nervousness. I think she thought I was about to apologise for failing to book the restaurant."
The couple married in Belsize Park, north London, on Saturday before a host of celebrity friends including David Baddiel, Claudia Winkleman and best man Robert Webb, Mitchell's co-star in the long-running Channel 4 sitcom.
