Margaret and David Journeaux lived near each other and had the same group of friends as they grew up in Portsmouth.
Speaking to The Portsmouth News, Margaret said: "There were a few of us – boys and girls. We used to play cricket and rounders and and go over the hill."
Margaret and David became childhood sweethearts and married at St. Mary's Church, Frattan, when they were 19 and 21, respectively.
As a honeymoon, the couple spent some time in Brighton before following it up with a summer holiday to Jersey.
The couple have lived in Portsmouth all their lives, with Margaret having started her working life in a drapery store in the city, while David is a former engineer.
They have two daughters together and Margaret said the family will quietly celebrate the anniversary as her husband suffers from dementia.
Margaret said: "It's hard but we've had some lovely years. David has been a wonderful loving husband and caring father. I know people often say they never row but we haven't really. We've had disagreements, obviously, but they were never that bad. We've had a lovely marriage."
