The baby girl was delivered at West Malling and has been named Phoebe.
Mari-anne Stanley, the baby's paternal grandmother was travelling home with the expectant mother and said both mother and baby were doing well.
Ms Stanley added the family was "still in shock" at the events, with Phoebe being born one week early.
She said: "We would like to thank everybody involved yesterday. We'd also like to apologise to all the passengers who were delayed but the circumstances were such that we simply could not go any further."
A spokesman for train operating company Southeastern later confirmed the 45-minute delay to the service due to Phoebe's birth, adding that the firm would be sending the mother a bunch of flowers.
