According to the Portsmouth News, Andrew Meldrum (29) and his wife Laura (26) have asked for compensation after Andrew fell ill with salmonella during their two-week holiday in Jamaica.
The couple had paid £4,500 to stay at the all-inclusive Sandals Royal Caribbean Resort following their wedding, but Meldrum had eaten a chicken burger from one of the resorts restaurants and fell ill.
He said: "I was bed-bound for the best part of seven days. It ruined the honeymoon. We had five good days at the beginning and we managed to save three days at the end.
"But the seven days in between were just completely ruined."
Doctors carried out tests at the resort, but salmonella was only confirmed on the couple's return.
Specialist travel lawyer Suki Chhokar from Irwin Mitchell is representing the couple, who said their initial complaint has got nowhere. Mr Chhokar added that the firm has no further option but to issue court proceedings against tour operator Thomas Cook Tour Operations Limited.
He said: "This was meant to be a relaxing, luxurious honeymoon but instead Andrew was left severely ill and needed treatment by a doctor who visited him at the resort.
"The couple have been through more than enough and we are disappointed that the tour operator has not worked with us to resolve the matter quickly and fairly. We hope that by issuing court proceedings this will swiftly conclude the couple’s legal battle for justice."
