Couple Tie Knot In Sweet-Themed Wedding

A young couple from Swindon have tied the knot in a sweet-themed wedding – more than a decade after the bride worked for a sweet manufacturer.

According to the Swindon Advertiser, 22-year-old Lauren Wakeling landed a job as a taste tester for sweet manufacturer Swizzels Matlow, when she was just eight years old. She tasted sweets for the firm for a year after entering a Radio 1 competition back in 1998. At the time of the competition, Lauren was asked to name the best thing about her home town on Zoe Ball’s radio show. Her answer was that the band Oasis was named after the Oasis leisure centre.

After winning, she tested sweets as they came out for a year, won her height in sweets and also went to the factory for a tour. Lauren was given a steel press of a Love Heart with her name on it, together with some Love Hearts made with the press.

Then, more than 14 years later, as the bride-to-be got engaged to fiancé Shannon Taylor (22) and began to plan their wedding reception, she decided to get back in touch with the company who agreed to provide specially made treats for the big day.

She said: "Obviously people choose a theme for their wedding and it can be about anything, but for me it relates back to 15 years ago nearly, and there’s a story behind the theme.

"It was something a bit different and we’re very lucky because when I got in contact with Swizzels Matlow I thought they were going to be 'thanks but no thanks', but they were really lovely. They even sent me a wedding card."

For the couple's wedding reception, they were given sweet trees, two rings of 20 Love Hearts, a candy buffet, two giant polystyrene Love Hearts, large Love Heart Tubes to use as props, personalised Love Hearts wedding favours, and 10 small tubes of special edition Love Hearts to give to ushers and bridesmaids as thank you gifts.

Lauren and Shannon met while they were pupils at Nova Hreod school. They married on Saturday at Swindon Register Office in front of around 70 people. A reception was then held for 100 guests at Down Ampney Village Hall.
