Samantha Duncan (28) said she decided to start the elaborate plans after being inspired by her favourite television show, Don't Tell The Bride, according to The Sun.
Ms Duncan, who works as a probation officer, said: "We had talked about getting married in the past and one night I just got the idea to propose. We're not an overly traditional couple so I thought it would be a great way to get engaged.
"After thinking about how I would propose, I thought how crazy it would be if I booked the wedding. That way I could surprise him — not only with the proposal but the whole ceremony as well. Once I had my mind set I got to work straight away and it all fell into place."
She added: "Jon loves surprises and I thought about how great it would be if I surprised him with the whole wedding. I knew it would be a risk without being engaged first but I thought it was a chance I had to take."
The couple have been dating for two years after meeting through mutual friends.
As part of her wedding preparations, Samantha – with a wedding date already in mind – set about organising a venue. She also emailed DJs, photographers, florists and even managed to try on a few wedding dresses, while her boyfriend remained oblivious.
The couple also carried out a taste test on their wedding cake, after Sam disguised it as an after-dinner cupcake.
On March 17, the couple went for a walk when Sam popped the question. Jon said yes and admitted it was "the best surprise I've ever had".
The couple are due to marry this Saturday.
