Spears and her former husband, Kevin Federline, have two sons together – Sean Preston and Jayden James – and the singer said it was because of her children, that she put her feelings aside.
The couple got engaged in July 2004, just three months after meeting. They married later that year and in October, Spears took a break from her career to start a family. It was in November 2006, when Spears filed for divorce from Federline, citing irreconcilable differences. However, a bitter custody battle ensued.
Despite their troubled past, a source told Closer magazine: "It's taken a while but Britney says she and Kevin have finally moved on. They're never going to be best pals, but they're at a stage where they can enjoy each other's company.
"Britney feels guilty for what she put the boys through, so she's doing what she can to give them a stable life."
Spears' high-profile breakdown led to Kevin having custody of their sons, before the pair eventually reached a joint custody agreement in 2008.
The singer is now in a new relationship with law firm employee David Lucado.
