However, it is no longer firemen and policemen who are topping the list, but doctors, according to Female First.
The survey, which was conducted by DeliveryQuoteCompare.com, found 61% of women asked admitted that it was doctors and surgeons that got their hearts racing.
Surprisingly, second place on the list was claimed by delivery men (55%), while the fireman slipped to third with 53% of the votes.
This was followed by the Army and Navy servicemen in fourth, while pilots were found to be the least likely to sweep women off their feet, coming in fifth with just 18% of the vote.
When asked why they loved a man in uniform, the most common answer from women was because they believed a man in uniform to be very masculine.
A third of women said that felt a man in uniform could look after them well, with slightly less admitting they were attracted to them simply because of the way they look in uniform.
Other aspects of the survey revealed more than seven in 10 women admitted to having fantasised about a man in uniform, while just under a third said they have had a crush on one in real life.
Daniel Parry, spokesperson for DeliveryQuoteCompare.com, said: "Stereotype would often have us believe that firemen are the uniformed men that most frequently set women’s pulses racing, but with this study we wanted to look into whether or not this was indeed the case; and its seems not!
"Doctors and surgeons are clearly the favourite, but flanked closely by the humble delivery man- who is more likely to attract female attention than firemen and army/navy servicemen it seems.
"Whatever the reason, delivery men around the UK should rejoice. No longer should the negative 'white van man' image reign, but they should embrace their new status as amongst the most fancied men in uniform in the UK!"
