30-year-old Ben Levi from Sydney, Australia is reported to have contacted the video game's software developer, Rovio, earlier this year, according to the Huffington Post.
Mr Levi contacted the company in January and then spent the next several months working on a special level that would finish with the words, 'Marry me'.
However, his girlfriend of nine years, Melissa Swift, has never been a fan of the game due to her partner's addiction to it, but has since 'softened' her opinion of the game.
She explained: "It took Angry Birds to finally get him to propose... I love them. Nothing else would motivate him, but Angry Birds did it, so I'm forever grateful."
Talking about the game, 24-year-old Swift said her fiancé is constantly playing the game.
The couple recently moved in together and had decided to go out to lunch to celebrate. It was then, when Mr Levi took out a computer tablet and asked Swift if she wanted to play the game.
She agreed and played it as normal, but as she reached level three, the words 'MARRY ME MEL' popped up.
Swift added: "I think I would have been less surprised had I seen a flying pig.
"I remember looking at it and not really comprehending what it meant. He was down on one knee and it just all fell into place and I just started crying . . . It was just unbelievable."
The couple are due to marry next year, with Mr Levi contemplating an Angry Birds-themed wedding.
