According to the Daily Mail, the announcement comes a day after the Hollywood actress admitted she had undergone a double mastectomy earlier this year.
The 37-year-old decided to have the operation after she was diagnosed with the BRCA1 gene, meaning she had an 87% chance of developing breast cancer and a 50% chance of getting ovarian cancer. Jolie's mother died of cancer at the age of 56.
Following the actress's revelation, a source told MailOnline the couple were now focused on their upcoming wedding.
They said: "Angie is keen on a wedding and the kids are clamouring for a marriage and keep asking Brad and Angie when it's happening.
"Brad has been caught up in production turmoil with his new film World War Z, so there's been no wedding planning as a result, but Angie has said it will happen sooner rather than later.
"They are all for all intents and purposes married, but it's become clear that it's important to them to make it official."
The couple got engaged in 2011 after Pitt proposed with a $500,000 diamond ring and in November last year, the actor said they would be walking down the aisle "soon". He failed to confirm a date, but stressed that their wedding would be "simple".
"Just family. Keep it simple. Keep it simple – really," he added.
