The 50-year-old made the revelation in an interview with ITV1's This Morning programme on Thursday.
Mum-of-one Malone, who had a daughter Danielle when she was 17, said she and her husband Paul Chase had turned to IVF treatment. It will be couple's first child together.
Malone is now five weeks into her pregnancy and said both she and her 30-year-old partner were "delighted" when they discovered the treatment had been successful.
The actress, who played foul-mouthed Mimi Maguire in the hit show Shameless, said: "I am pregnant. We are delighted.
"I think it's important that I'm much more healthy than I was 20 years ago.
"I've had ECGs, I've had blood tests, we've had everything done. And physically, mentally, emotionally, and even financially, believe it or not, I'm better than I have been for 20 years.
"And I've got the best man or partner I could ever have.
"I have a beautiful, wonderful talented daughter but it would be just so nice for us to have a baby. We realise it's early but it would just be so nice. But we are aware there can be pitfalls, we are only five weeks, and we're ready.
"The more relaxed you are with IVF and the more positive you are the better."
Malone added that the couple could end up having twins, and said she would be "absolutely ecstatic" if she gave birth to a girl and a boy.
In 2011, Malone revealed she had lost 10st after being fitted with a gastric band in a bid to get pregnant.
