Britons Spend £500 A Year On Baby Showers

A surge in baby showers has revealed 28% of British women now host a party for their unborn baby.

According to Female First, a new survey by Mothercare has found that more than a quarter of women have admitted to spending hundreds of pounds a year on the parties.

It is thought the average woman will now spend £560 a year on baby showers, attending a total of 23 parties in their lifetime. Furthermore, of those who had their own baby shower, one in ten confessed to taking advantage of having a baby gift list.

The baby gift list mimics the traditional wedding list and often sees the mother-to-be make a list of the things they need, with the guests buying something from the list.

Mothercare's Global Brand & Marketing Director Jude Bridge said: "Baby showers are a growing trend. We know our customers enjoy both the giving and receiving of gifts to anticipate the arrival of a new baby."

Baby showers have previously been viewed as a typically American trend, but its popularity has increased in the UK in recent times.
