The research, The State of Parenting Today, which was carried out by website Parentdish, found 34% of mothers and 28% of fathers admitted to preferring one of their children over the others.
A total of 2,212 parents were surveyed and 42% said they felt that things could be better with their children, while 17% felt they were going through a stressful time.
A massive 92% of parents confessed however that it was all worth it.
Of the reasons given as the most satisfying role of being a parent, 32% said it was watching their children play together, with 24% saying it was reading their child a story.
A further 42% revealed the things that made them happiest about being a parent were unconditional love and affection, but Sunday lie-ins (40%) and money (38%) were the things they missed most.
The research also discovered that more than half of parents (54%) lied to others about weekend plans for their children, while more than one in five felt pressured to buy their children the latest gadgets to fit in.
When asked about celebrity role models, Holly Willoughby (23%) and David Beckham (20%) topped the lists.
Interestingly, when it came to certain 'baby tasks', such as changing nappies, men were quicker, taking one minute, 36 seconds compared to mothers who take an average of two minutes and five seconds.
Tamsin Kelly, editor of Parentdish, said: "Dads changing nappies quicker than mums is a surprise to me, although I am glad to see more dads getting stuck into this side of parenting.
"I am not surprised that mums and dads exaggerate their weekend plans though, as packing your children’s lives with activities is a real area for parent competitiveness today."
