1 In 10 Turn Down Wedding Party Roles

An increasing number of young people are turning down invitations to be best man or bridesmaid at friend's weddings, due to the cost.

According to Today, almost one in 10 turned down the role because the cost is too high.

This year, the wedding industry is reported to return to its pre-recession state, with the average cost coming to $30,000.

However, the soaring costs are affecting the bridesmaids and groomsmen – with the men coming off the worst.

In the 18 to 34 age group, almost 12% of men admitted they turned down an invitation to be a groomsman because of how much it cost. In a survey by TheKnot.com, it was reported that a men pay out more than women to partake in a wedding.

It found groomsmen spent an average $155 on tuxes for 2012, while bridesmaids' dresses cost $137. If the wedding ceremony was also being held somewhere out of town, those attending are looking at an extra $300 on top of what they have already paid out to attend.

It is thought the above costs don't account for the stag or hen parties, either.
