According to Digital Spy, Racquel Cloutier placed the ring inside a plain watch box before she was taken to hospital to have her fifth child.
It is understood she wanted to keep the ring safe from her two-year-old twin boys while she was away. However, as she was in hospital recovering from the delivery, her husband Eric decided to participate in the community garage sale so his other children would be kept busy.
The watch box was just one of the items Mr Cloutier put up for sale, with someone buying it for $10.
It was only the day his wife returned home from the hospital, that she realised the ring was missing.
Speaking to ABC News, she said: "I go into my husband's closet, can't find the box, and then he tells me he sold it. I said, 'You sold it? What do you mean you sold it?' I immediately started crying."
Mr Cloutier believes the ring was bought by a blonde woman, who hesitated before purchasing the item, while his wife is hoping someone will return the ring.
"I would never, ever keep the ring if I had found it. If you're honest, you're honest. Clearly, the ring was in the box by accident," she added.
