The couple's front doorway was also bricked up when they returned home from their honeymoon in 1988, the BBC has said.
Friends and family of John and Wendy Williams carried out the prank at the couple's home in Marske, Teesside, but left a small gap between the bricks and the front door which was not wide enough to fit through.
On this occasion however, best man Dave Dallin insisted it was the Williams' daughter, Emma, who encouraged the joke.

"When they got back and found they hadn't it was more relief than anything. Last time he said he would get me back but he hasn't yet."
Mrs Williams added: "I'm tired more than anything, I'll get them back when I recover."
