Half Of Working Women Afraid To Tell Boss They're Pregnant

A new survey, carried out by QualitySolicitors, found that almost half of working women are nervous about telling their boss or manager that they are pregnant because of the possible reaction.

A total of 1,000 women were polled for the survey, and even more than half admitted they did not know about their maternity rights, with many worried that asking about a firm's policy could affect their career.

As a result, QualitySolicitors said companies need to make their policy more openly available to staff.

Craig Holt of QualitySolicitors, said: "In today's economic climate, women are understandably concerned about job security.

"Despite strong legal regulation to assist the employer and employee, a culture of 'don't ask, don't tell' has been allowed to develop.

"Women are not asking about their rights, and employers are not always communicating clearly what these rights are and where they can find them."
