The survey, which was carried out by parenting website Netmums.com, also found that one in eight families choose to give their children names beginning with the same letter. Celebrities known for this trend include Kim, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian, as well as Wayne and Colleen Rooney who named their two sons, Kai and Klay.
The trend is most popular with names beginning with J and K.
Looking at the rise of the more traditional names, this can be seen by Prime Minister David Cameron and his wife Samantha, whose children are called Florence, Nancy, Ivan and Arthur, while Bruce Willis has called his daughter Mabel.
85% of parents were in agreement that names are 'vital' to how others perceive your child, but a selection of parents continue to choose more unconventional names. One in 12 admitted they had chosen a colour as their child's name, while one in 50 said they had chosen an 'animal' name, such as 'Bear' or 'Tiger'.
Perhaps not surprisingly, celebrities remain the largest influence on names with 53% of parents basing their choice on well-known stars, while one in five found inspiration from their favourite book or television show. Almost 15% of parents claimed they had picked an unusual name as they felt normal names were "dull and overused", while 4% hoped it would "make their child stand out."
A further 12% said they regretted giving their offspring a "fashionable" name.
One in 20 mums even admitted to seeing a name they had chosen "stolen" by a friend, forcing three in five to change their minds.
Siobhan Freegard, Founder of Netmums, said: "The internet is making it much easier for parents to research unusual names.
"We've even seen parents putting up polls and crowdsourcing names for their children from others online. It's clear that fashionable or wacky names are only going to get more common in the playground."
