106 Weddings For 'Most Married Couple'

An American couple, David and Lauren Blair, have officially become the 'most married couple' in the world.

The pair, who first met in 1982, have now tied the knot 106 times, the Daily Mail has reported.

From Tennessee, the lovebirds have married in various locations around the world, including London, New York, Scotland and Las Vegas. Interestingly, however, Lauren originally rejected her partner's very first proposal. It would be three months later before she would change her mind.

The couple's first wedding took place in 1984 and ever since have renewed their vows on special days such as Valentine's Day, a minute either side of New Year, Christmas Day and February 29.

In 2001, they broke the world record for the 'most married couple', after tying the knot at Serendipity 3 Restaurant in New York with their 59th ceremony, but decided to continue.

Lauren, 62, said: "We met at Universal Studios in Hollywood in September 1982. David said it was love at first sight and after three months of dating proposed to me.

"I thought it was a bit soon but three months later I caught the bouquet at my cousin's wedding and it was a sign - the next day I gave him a card that said 'If you still want to marry me, please ask me again.'

"So he got down on one knee and proposed again and this time I said yes.

"We got married in Los Angeles on May 6, 1984 and then had a church wedding the next day in Chicago, which is where I am originally from, with both families in attendance.

"Then on May 12, while on our honeymoon, we renewed our vows again. When we got home we looked into whether there was a Guinness Record for this feat and found that there was."

When discussing what started the idea of continuing to renew the vows, she added: "It started because we were both in long-term relationships in the past that didn't work out. We knew we were meant for each other and wanted to continually share that vow experience.

"Our original goal was 100, so now that we've passed that mark we are looking for new goals to reach. David is turning 60 on our upcoming wedding day, August 4, so we mark special occasions like that.

"We've already been married on every numbered day of the month so every day is our anniversary, even on leap year. We've been married on 01/01/01, 02/02/02, 03/03/03 and so on finishing that goal on 12/12/12.

"We're hopelessly in love - each one of our ceremonies has been emotional and very special to us.

"We are very serious about our vows and people say it is obvious by just looking at us."

The couple, who will celebrate their 30th anniversary this year, are due to renew their vows next on 4 August.
