'Push Presents' Increase In Popularity

'Push presents' are said to be the latest craze sweeping across Britain among parents-to-be.

According to a new survey, conducted by VoucherCodes.co.uk, the craze is reported to be costing the UK millions.

A push present is a gift given to a woman by her partner after she has given birth to their new baby, and it is thought 43% of new mums now expect to receive a 'push present', with dads spending an average of £129.83 on the gift.

The idea is popular in America, but has seen its popularity grow recently in Britain, as it has cost new fathers £109m.

Looking at the gifts, 15% of women said jewellery would be their preferred gift, with a diamond ring named the most wanted piece of jewellery. However, the most popular gift turned out to be a bunch of flowers with more than a third of women choosing the present.

A further fifth of women said they would like a spa break following their pregnancy.

Anita Naik, Consumer Editor at VoucherCodes.co.uk said: "The trend for giving push presents has been a big deal in the US for the past few years.

"Like the prom and the baby shower before it, Brits are starting to adopt the tradition as their own and now it seems to have the Royal seal of approval there's no doubt more women than ever will be expecting a push gift.

"Whether new dads decide their partner deserves a relaxing day at a spa, or a bit of sparkle, there are a huge range of discounts available online for jewellery, holidays, experience days and more."
