Mr Cameron made the comments at a reception held in Downing Street earlier this week to celebrate Britain's decision to legalise same-sex marriages.
According to the Express, Cameron said during the party that Britain is now "the best place to be gay, lesbian or transgender anywhere in Europe."
He then suggested his ministers should help to spread same-sex marriage across the world.
Explaining his thoughts on passing the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill earlier this month, he explained: " I'm personally proud of this. I think it's a really good step.
"I've told the Bill team I'm now going to reassign them because, of course, all over the world people would have been watching this and we've set something of an example of how to pass good legislation in good time.
"Many countries are going to want to copy this. I talk about how we've got to export more, so I'm going to export the Bill team. I think they can take it around the world."
The Bill received Royal Assent last Thursday despite facing fierce opposition from Tory backbenchers and a number of religious organisations.
It is thought same-sex couples will now be able to marry as early as next summer.
