The 32-year-old reportedly received her inspiration after watching an Emmerdale storyline, the Sunday Mirror has reported.
Last month, Katona was declared bankrupt for the second time. As a result, she revealed she had made the decision to postpone her wedding to former rugby player Kay as she could no longer afford their big day.
However, it is thought the couple are now planning to organise a pagan 'handfasting' ceremony, after seeing a recent storyline in Emmerdale.
Katona, who is a mum of four, apparently wants to hold the ceremony on 31 August as a public declaration of her love for partner until they can afford a proper wedding.
The event would also be viewed as a 'double celebration' as Katona's daughter Molly would be celebrating her 13th birthday on that date.
Despite holding the ceremony, the couple's marriage will not be legally binding as a result.
Following her bankruptcy, the singer spoke about her wedding saying: "We can't afford it. It's not a priority - as long as we're together, that's the main thing."
Katona and Kay confirmed their engagement in April after nine months of dating.
