Maternal Urge Falls 'As IQ Increases'

A new study has revealed there is a clear link between intelligence and childlessness, with more intelligent women more likely to choose not to have a family.

The study was carried out by Satoshi Kanazawa, a researcher at the London School of Economics.

As part of the research, it was revealed that a woman's desire to have children decreases by a quarter for every 15 extra IQ points.

Kanazawa used data from the UK's National Child Development Study but when additional controls for economics and education were added, the results were the same; i.e. the more intelligent the women, the less likely she is to have children.

The results of the study follow official figures released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), which highlighted that the number of women who do not have children, has almost doubled since the 1990s.

One in five 45-year-olds are now childless, while of those who have degrees, the number jumps to 43%, suggesting Kanazawa's findings are sound.
