31% 'Lose' Their Partner's Possessions

A new survey has revealed that, when moving house, many couples tend to conveniently 'lose' their partner's belongings they hate.

The study, by Delivery Quote Compare, found 31% of respondents admitted to 'losing' their partner's belongings, with many claiming that their other half won't miss the item. A further 38% took it a step further, by blaming the loss on the delivery driver if they notice something has disappeared.

Moving home allowed 36% of those polled to 'de-clutter' their lives, while 24% said they used the experience to get rid of things they didn't like in their previous house.

The survey also discovered women threw out more of their partner's belongings, than men did of their partners. However, men are not completely oblivious to the tactics, with a few admitting they know some of their possessions will not make the journey.

69% of participants said they would ask their partner's permission first, but a bold 31% said they would just get rid of their partner's possessions when they weren't looking.

When it came to ditching items, 55% of men wanted to get rid of gifts from their exes, while 43% said they hated the number of cuddly toys their partner had packed, while 35% wanted to get rid of the excess amount of clothes their partner owned.

Daniel Parry of DeliveryQuoteCompare.com said: "Moving home is a stressful occasion for the vast majority of us. There's a lot to think about and a large logistical process behind it all. With so much to organise, it's the perfect opportunity for people to sneakily dispose of any of their partner's possessions that they don't like.

"It's a rare opportunity to have such a large scale clear out, so we can see the appeal of it. However, we wouldn't condone keeping it hidden from your partner. You should definitely consult them first and, as for blaming the removal firm? Talk about passing the buck!"
