The 68-year-old actor was speaking to press at the premiere of his new film when he insisted the couple's relationship is "fine", but they are simply having a "temporary separation".
He explained: "I have a crisis at home? No... We, we are fine. My wife and I are, are fine."
Last month, following months of rumours, it was confirmed the Hollywood couple had separated. In a statement, a publicist for 43-year-old Zeta-Jones said the pair "are taking time apart" in order to "evaluate and work on their marriage".
They were last photographed together in April.
It is understood the couple are attending counselling in order to salvage their 13-year-marriage.
According to previous reports, the actress told friends she would do "everything in my power" to keep their family together.
The couple first met in France in 1998, before tying the knot in New York in November 2000. They have two children together – Dylan, 13, and Carys, 10.
