George Zimmerman's Wife Files For Divorce

The wife of George Zimmerman, the neighbourhood watchman who was acquitted of killing an unarmed black teenager is to divorce her husband, her lawyer has revealed.

Zimmerman, 29, was accused of shooting dead 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in February 2012. He claimed he acted in self-defence and in July, he was acquitted of second-degree murder.


A lawyer for Mrs Zimmerman, Kelly Sims, confirmed her client had filed a petition for divorce on Thursday in Seminole County, central Florida.

Last week, she carried out an interview with ABC News when she said she did not know if she wanted to remain married to her husband.

The news also comes just one week after 26-year-old Shellie Zimmerman confessed to lying for her husband during a bail hearing. It is understood she lied about the assets the couple had while a judge was determining a bail amount.
