According to America's OK! magazine, the couple briefly reunited once Sanders' divorce from his wife was finalised.
The 23-year-old actress was in a relationship with her 'Twilight' co-star Robert Pattinson, when she was caught kissing the then-married Sanders in July 2012. Following the revelations, Sanders' wife, Liberty Ross, filed for divorce. Once their separation was finalised, it is claimed Stewart went back to the 42-year-old film director because she had "real feelings" for him.
Sanders and Stewart met on the set of 'Snow White and the Huntsman', but it is thought their reunion was short-lived when Sanders called off the relationship. His ex-wife, and mother to his two children, is said to be angry over the revelation, and because Stewart never apologised to her for her actions.
A source is quoted by the magazine as saying: "Liberty recently left a message for Kristen, suggesting she might as well sew a big letter 'A' on her chest, since she's never really apologised to the now divorced mum."
While Ross and Sanders divorced in the aftermath of the affair, Stewart and Pattinson also separated. The pair were rumoured to be in a relationship but on the day the affair photographs were released, it was the first time Stewart had publicly stated they were together.
In a public apology to her boyfriend, she said: "This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry."
