Katie Piper has confirmed she is expecting her first child.
The model-turned-television presenter shared the news via her Twitter account at the weekend.
She wrote: "You've all supported me through bad times so I wanted to share some good news with you. I'm thrilled to say I'm expecting my first child! :)"
In a follow-up message, she added: "Overwhelmed by all the congratulations tweets and best wishes ! Thank you so much has completely taken my mind of todays morning sickness! X".
In her column for the Sunday Mirror, Piper added that she was happy to share this new experience with Simon Cowell. Cowell, who is patron of her charity for burns victims, is soon to become a first-time father with his girlfriend Lauren Silverman.
She wrote: "I'm very excited to share my news that I'm going to be a mummy.
"I'm so happy, and it's been really hard to keep it a secret.
"It's funny that both myself and Simon Cowell, who is patron of my charity the Katie Piper Foundation, are going through the same experience.
"Perhaps the children will be playmates one day."
Piper, 30, had her 12-week scan last week. She and her partner of two years, moved in together last year. In 2008, the mum-to-be was the victim of an acid attack. The attack, which blinded Piper in one eye, was arranged by her ex-boyfriend, Daniel Lynch, and carried out by an accomplice, Stefan Sylvestre.
The incident was caught on CCTV and both Lynch and Sylvestre were arrested. Lynch received two life sentences, and will serve a minimum of 16 years. Sylvestre received a life sentence, and will serve a minimum of 12 years.
