1 In 3 Women 'Disappointed' With Proposal

A new survey has found that a third of women are left secretly disappointed with how their partner proposed.

The study, which was carried out by bespoke jewellery design service Hot Pink, revealed that a majority of those were unhappy with the location their partner had chosen to pop the question.

More than a third of the 2,000 adults polled said the ideal setting would be somewhere sentimental, with 26% saying they would like more romance, while a quarter said they would have liked it to be more of a surprise. A further 17% said they would have liked that special moment to be more personal and proving that their partner knows them well.

While some didn't mind the location, there were a few disappointed with the choice of ring with more than a quarter confessing they didn't like their other half's choice, and would "upgrade" if they had the chance.

Some said they would have liked a larger gemstone, while others wanted a different band, or a ring or better quality.

Elsewhere, 56% of respondents said they didn't feel it was important for their partner to actually go down on one knee when proposing, while 58% said they didn't think it was important to ask for permission from the bride-to-be's father before popping the question.

Manu Bhardwaj, founder of Hot Pink, said of the findings: "Our survey has provided an interesting snapshot into what is essentially one of the most important events in a couple's life.

"It appears that old age traditions of getting on one knee and asking your loved ones parents for permission are becoming a thing of the past.

"While there is no doubt that how your loved one proposes, and the ring they give you, doesn't define a marriage it's still an important process and one you want to get right."
