According to The Mirror, 26-year-old Jenny Hughes and her husband Ian Thorpe were to tie the knot on Saturday. The couple, who have two children together, did manage to make it through the ceremony, but Ms Hughes felt so ill, she struggled to stand for her wedding photographs afterwards.
Her husband decided to take her to the hospital where she was told she would need to have her appendix removed. As a result, the couple missed their wedding reception and their honeymoon.
Jenny's twin, Katy, is quoted by the paper as saying: "She didn't even get to see her kids, it's heart-breaking.
"They don't have a lot of money. Jenny is a full-time mum and Ian works for First Buses and had worked every night for the past year doing as much overtime as he could.
"They didn't get to see anything of the reception, it is just devastating."
The couple, along with their two children Molly and Oscar, had been due to go to Cornwall on honeymoon, but it is hoped they will be able to visit for a few days next week.
