The model admitted her devastation at the news in an article for Reveal magazine.
McLean, 32, previously miscarried in 2012. Doctors have blamed her low hormone levels – which could be linked to her previous eating disorders – as a reason for miscarrying.
Only last month, the mum-of-two discovered she was pregnant, but at her recent three-month scan she and her husband Tom Williams were told they had lost their unborn baby.
Speaking to the magazine, McLean confessed: "Tom told me not to get over-excited and to just wait until the three-month scan.
"But I was all, 'It'll be fine!' I'm a very positive person and I really thought this was going to work out well.
"As soon as they started the scan, I knew things weren't right. They kept moving the scanner around and I just could tell.
"I looked at Tom and said, 'I know.' I was devastated. I couldn't even be brave about it... I just can't understand it. It's awful."
McLean added that she found the loss too unbearable and is now considering fostering or adopting a child to add to the large family she has always wanted.
"Tom wants to try for another baby as soon as possible, but I'm done," she admitted.
"This is the first time I've ever felt like this. I'd love to have more babies, but the thought of having a miscarriage again is just too unbearable.
"I've always thought about adopting and fostering, so that's an option. But I don't think having a baby naturally is going to happen for me."
McLean and Williams are parents to Rocky, seven, and three-year-old Striker.
