Dating website Victoria Milan polled 6,000 of its members and found that 45% would cheat, or have cheated, on their partner because they felt they paid more attention to their phone than to them.
Women between the ages of 30 and 50 were most likely to feel this way, however those contemplating an affair because their other half ditched them in favour of their smartphone, admitted they would use their own mobile to meet someone new.
Some 66% of participants admitted they would not be unfaithful at all without the help of technology and the internet.
Sigurd Vedal, CEO of Victoria Milan, explained: "Like anything else that enhances our lives, technology is a double-edged sword.
"It's a predictable, albeit unfortunate, commentary that modern use of technology has led to a kind of social isolation - being alone in a room of many others - that leads to seeking out connections with others when we are left feeling unfulfilled in our day to day relationships. One way or the other we need to find that connection."
