Woman Is Billed After Rejecting Proposal

A woman who turned down a marriage proposal from an admirer has been handed a bill of more than £115,000 after he decided to charge her for everything he had ever bought her.

According to Nine Network's A Current Affair, Marie Lacombe, from Melbourne was shocked when she was handed the bill, but insists she and 65-year-old Bruce Dusting were never a couple.

Mr Dusting argues that the single mother deliberately misled him about their relationship, claiming she led him on so he would pay for her shopping sprees and cosmetic surgery.

The couple are understood to have met four years ago, when Ms Lacombe, 42, started teaching Dusting dance. They are said to have become good friends, with Mr Dusting taking the younger woman out to dinner and visiting her home. However, when Lacombe turned down his marriage proposal, he decided to hand her an itemised bill which highlighted every penny he had spent – or given – her. The bill amounts to £116,638.

Dusting explained that the payments - which include dental appointments and birthday parties for Lacombe's children - were all loans. For Ms Lacombe, she insists that apart from one loan of £14,580, the rest was given to her, and she also denied asking her would-be suitor for money for her cosmetic surgery.

She added that she had worked as Mr Dusting's office assistant for four years and didn't receive any money for her time.

Speaking to Nine Network, Ms Lacombe stated: "At the end of the day things took a turn for the worse when I said no to getting married to him."

She added that the bill is his way of plotting revenge over the rejection.

Mr Dusting also spoke to the media and said: "This Marie has just destroyed every thought of humanity that I've had for other people."

He also admitted that due to the stress the situation has caused, he will never dance again.

"I've probably still got the ability within, physically. Mentally I still have the ability.

"But, emotionally, it's just not there any more," he said.
