The couple first separated in September this year - two years after they announced their engagement - but reunited shortly after. However, it has been reported that their relationship is over for good on this occasion.
According to HELLO! magazine, a source is quoted as saying: "It is very sad and they tried to make it work but there were just too many issues in the way.
"Elizabeth is taking it one day at a time. She will always be extremely fond of Shane."
The couple's relationship has been the source of much speculation in recent months, but these reports were fuelled when Warne, 44, posted a cryptic tweet to his followers.
He wrote: "The past should be the past & stay there. It destroys the future. (sic)
"Live life for what tomorrow has to offer, not for what happened yesterday."
It is understood Hurley decided to give the former cricketer a second chance in their relationship, despite having allegedly found intimate text messages on his phone.
Following their separation - which was initially blamed on the couple's busy schedules - Hurley, 48, was said to be "deeply upset".
The actress and former sports star were first reported to be in a relationship in 2010 after they were spotted together outside a London restaurant. Shortly after, 48-year-old Hurley revealed she had separated with her husband of four years, Arun Nayar, several months earlier. Around the same time, Warne also confirmed he was no longer with his wife Simone Callahan, with whom he has three children. After both divorced their partners, Hurley and Warne revealed their engagement in September 2011.
